An Eye for Detail

Hunt Construction Services, Inc. was awarded a contract to build out the interior of Davis Vision’s newest Long Island store in Centereach.  Davis Vision is a retail optical store with locations nationwide.  They have state of the art laboratories that produce high quality and economical eyewear.

With possession of the space and the old tenant gone, select demolition work was necessitated.  The framing for perimeter and partition walls was constructed.  Electrical wiring and voice/data locations were roughed in and passed Building Department inspections before sheetrock could be installed.

Handicapped compliant restrooms and lab sinks required that concrete slabs be saw-cut and excavated so that underground plumbing drain and waste lines could be roughed in.  Once the underground plumbing work passed the requisite inspections, the concrete slabs were restored to grade with the addition of freshly poured material.  Vent lines and copper supply feeds were run above grade and walls were closed up with new moisture resistant sheetrock.  Ceramic tile was set on a bed of mortar and grout completed the installation.  Sinks and toilets were set and new exhaust fans were vented to the outside.

The balance of the space was sheet-rocked, taped, spackled and ready for paint.  The fire sprinkler mechanics were brought in to move select heads so that newly partitioned rooms had code compliant coverage.  At the same time our fire alarm mechanics were

pulling wire through the ceiling plenum for smoke and heat detectors, horn strobes and pull stations that would ultimately be wired back to the fire alarm control panel and annunciator.  The lay-in light fixtures were set in the acoustic ceiling grid along with flexible HVAC return and supply ducts that branched off of the trunk lines.  Switches, outlets and voice data boxes were installed.  Ceiling tiles were set and finished off the grid.  Walls were painted along with metal door frames.  Wood doors were completed with urethane and locksets.  Select walls received wall covering.  High traffic durable carpet was installed throughout with select areas getting vinyl composite tile.  Vinyl cove base moldings gave a finished look.  Davis Vision brought in their prototypical furniture, fixtures and equipment which were installed to finish out the job.  The final items included the phone system, exit signs, lights and fire extinguishers.


The job was completed on time and on budget, and Davis Vision had a new location ready to serve new clientele
